History of Balotsavam – 2022

The 4th Amaravati Balotsavam Children’s Festival was successfully conducted on 26th and 27th March 2022 at Siddhartha Auditorium, Vijayawada. Despite challenges such as high school assessment examinations, intense summer heat, and the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the enthusiasm and excitement of children remained undiminished. Balotsavam continued to serve as a joyful celebration and a meaningful platform where children could express their creativity, learn with happiness, and build lifelong memories.

A total of 5,112 students from 126 high schools and volunteers 180 and participated in the festival. Parents, teachers, judges, organisers, and volunteers extended wholehearted support to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Food arrangements were made for approximately 7,500 participants and attendees over the two days.

Distinguished Guests and Inspiration

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sri K. S. Lakshmana Rao, Member of the Legislative Council, who delivered an inspiring keynote address. During the prize distribution ceremony, Sri Ranjith Basha, Municipal Commissioner of Vijayawada, encouraged children by sharing his own childhood experiences in quiz competitions.

Dr. Vasireddy Ramesh Babu, founder of the Balotsavam movement, emphasised that children should look up to individuals who serve society and contribute positively to the nation. Prof. Tummala Srikumar inspired students by explaining the importance of science in daily life.

A special highlight was the inspiring speech by D. Jahnavi, selected as the first young woman from India for NASA, who motivated children to dream big and pursue science and research.

Organisation and Support

The festival was successfully organised with the support of Siddhartha Academy, which provided the venue and meals. Generous support was also extended by PSCMR Engineering College, Canara Bank Regional Office, Rotary Club of Vijayawada Mid Town, Sri Durga Enterprises, and other donors.

42 organisers, 70 expert judges, and numerous volunteers from engineering and degree colleges rendered dedicated service. Science centres, cultural organisations, and Balotsavam committee members worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success.

Impact and Vision

Amaravati Balotsavam continues to grow as a powerful educational and cultural movement. Inspired by the success in Vijayawada, Balotsavam has expanded to several districts including Machilipatnam, Guntur, Tadepalli, Eluru, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Anantapur, and Nellore. The organisers aim to extend this meaningful initiative to all districts and tribal regions, promoting joyful learning, creativity, and holistic development for every child.
